I'm Bevan Kearsley - a qualified Chippie of many years who experienced a life changing spinal cord injury many years ago.
Like many others, I have learnt to overcome my injury, and rebounded to live a different life than I would have expected, but a life that has been full of love, laughs, challenges, tears and heartbreak - a 'normal' life......
I have benefited from the generosity of others through the years and have seen the positive outcomes of acts of kindness and keen to pay it back.
I'm riding my wheelchair around Australia to raise a MILLION DOLLARS to help build a cutting-edge Rehabilitation and Healthy Living Centre so Spinal, Stroke, and Brain injury patients are not living in a hospital ward while they rehabilitate.
30 years ago, I was a spinal patient and sadly nothing has changed. New patients have to spend their whole-time rehabilitating and living in a hospital ward divorced from their families which can be 6 to 24 months.
But as importantly, I am raising awareness of people with disabilities and our desire to travel and see Australia, like most other Australians.
Helping organisations like Spinal Life Australia, and the Perry Cross Spinal Cord Research Foundation will help provide immediate support to others living with disability while providing hope for the future - a future that will be more inclusive and more accessible for all.
